Mill Description

Traces of wooden structures suggest that this mill was supplied by a wooden water channel. On its northern, upstream end the 12-m long penstock stops abruptly at a vertical smoothly plastered face, leaving the channel exposed. A wooden trough might have carried the water from the leat to the penstock and the shaft to the turbine chamber under the millhouse. A large piece of wood about 50 x 50 x 50 cm is embedded in the south face of the millhouse, slightly to the east of the aqueduct. A further piece of wood c. 1 m long lies in the space between the millhouse and the stone aqueduct. The outflow from the turbine chamber is round-arched with dressed limestone quoins; the chamber is 1.5 m high and has a vaulted ceiling. The foundations of the millhouse, which is of a single makrinari type, are irregularly coursed river boulders, with basalt quoins on its corners. Sevina Floridou, 2001 and 2002. (TAESP Volume 1: 268)
