Mill Description

The third mill of Linou is located 200m to the northeast of the second mill. The surviving buildings include the aqueduct and the watertower. The building that housed the grinding mechanism is not preserved. The stone built aqueduct is preserved at a length of about 9m. It is made of a stone wall at the top of which a channel, 0.40m width, is formed. The base of the aqueduct is formed by a solid wall while at its junction with the watertower a pointed arched passage is formed that is 2.60m wide, allowing the movement between the two sides of the mill. Part of the stonework above the arch has collapsed and there is loss of stones from the channel’s upper part. The watertower is massive and has dimensions of 3.30 x 3.60m. Its maximum visible height is 5.60m. Its two sides are vertical and the third (front) has an inclined shape with three steps. Its masonry follows the irregular stone wall technique and is plastered. The cornerstones consist of dressed stones. The upper part of the watertower has raised walls forming a rectangular water reservoir around the opening of the shaft. The shaft has the shape of an inverted truncated cone. Locally, there is loss of stones and coating material. Even though the building that housed the grinding mechanism is not visible today, remnants of it may exist under the dense vegetation. D. Myrianthefs
