Mill Description
This is the second of five consecutive mills located in the village of Linou. The surviving buildings include the aqueduct and the watertower while parts of the building that housed the grinding mechanism are also preserved. The stonebuilt aqueduct, in the form of a rendered channel, is preserved at a length of about 40m and has a sigmoidal shape. It is made of a solid wall at the top of which a channel is formed. The base of the aqueduct, in its greatest length, is formed by a solid masonry wall that is about 5m high and 1.60m thick, while it is reinforced on both sides by buttresses. At its junction with the watertower there was an arched passage, which allowed movement between the two sides of the mill. The arched opening and part of the base of the aqueduct were demolished in order to create a passage. The aqueduct’s masonry follows the irregular stone masonry technique with local stones. Some parts of it have collapsed while extensive parts of the channel at the top have been lost. The watertower is tall and massive with its base having dimensions 3.70x5.70m. Its maximum height is approximately 8m. Its two side walls are vertical and the third (front) inclined and also stepped. Its masonry follows the irregular stone wall technique with local stone and it is plastered. The cornerstones are dressed. Locally, there is loss of plaster and stones. The building that housed the grinding mechanism, to the north of the watertower, is not visible. Some parts might have been hidden underneath the dense vegetation. On the east side of the watertower the springing of an arch exists, indicating the existence of a room on this side as well. D. Myrianthefs
