Mill Description
This was the first cotton mill in the area. It was abandoned in 1947 when Myltiades Mylonas built a new grain and cotton mill just to the north (BU0060). It is situated on three terraces, with the millhouse on the middle one and the turbine room on the lowest. The penstock is c. 6.2 m high, built of irregular river boulders with tile chinking. The barrel-vaulted outflow with dressed ashlar limestone quoins is c. 4 m long and 2 m high. The millhouse was L-shaped, only the north porch (c. 5 x 4 m) surviving. This porch leans against the north wall of the penstock and has an opening the full width of the room facing north. Its foundations are of four irregular courses of basalt and river boulders with basalt chinking, with 17 rows of baked solid bricks on the east facade. Two more rows have been added to support irregular wooden beams and corrugated roofing. Inside the porch is a brick fireplace (niskia) with rectangular niches (thyroudes) symmetrically placed high above. S. Floridou TAESP Volume 1: 268
