Mill Description

This well-maintained stonebuilt mill has associated domestic quarters for the miller and his wife. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1878, and renovated in 1926. It is constructed of plastered rubble masonry with limestone quoins. The penstock is 16m high; its base is 7.5 x 3.0 m and at the top it measures 2.6 x 3.8 m. The turbine room is constructed of stone with a barrel vault, with the mudbrick milling room above it measuring 7.7 x 7.1 m. Currently the milling room has a concrete floor, but this was originally of stone. The roof of terracotta tiles is now supported by two rolled steel girders. The mill has an engine for periods of low water flow, located on a concrete base in a separate engine room measuring 3.4 x 2.1 m.
