Mill Description
This mill, which is also known as Mylos tis Panagias (‘Mill of the Virgin Mary’), has a four-tiered aqueduct to carry the leat with supporting buttresses every 3 m. The height of the aqueduct rises to c. 5.6 m as it meets the penstock. The lower courses are built of flat tiles, typically c. 4.5 x 45.0 x 38.0 cm. The penstock is c. 5.6 m high, with carefully distinguished courses in smaller and larger boulders of basalt. The large shaft has a diameter of 2.17 m, and is set into a rectangular floor at the top of the penstock with perimeter walls 0.80 m high. The millhouse has been partly destroyed, but the south side survives, with a latticed window. The nozzle and the wooden wheel are visible inside the water reservoir room.
